StartSSL: a Certification Authority with a heart

"Linux Security: So, first of all: on your site you have a strong statement, basically against “big” CAs, charging a lot of money for certificates, whereas StartSSL only charges users when human work is involved. Could you tell me more about that?

"Eddy Nigg: Right! But let me explain you more about that because it’s not all thatsimple. First of all, we are not against any certification authority neither big nor small – we perhaps view things differently and have different goals. Actually we believe that those which invented a great tool for securing our online traffic and data did a great job, but failed to make it popular and make it highly available to the masses, mostly due to their business models and decisions.

"Our online privacy and security is every day challenged by an ever increasing barrage of phishing attempts, fraud attempts, invasion of privacy by man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks and more. It’s therefore utterly important to protect ourselves accordingly. Secure point-to-point encryption and proper identification are one of those tools which help us stay protected when online, but also allows us to build relations and perform all kinds of trade despite the enormous distances."
